Literature Text

Your cool breath overtook me,
evicting sun-warmed teeth
that once combed my skin.

I tried hiding--
from your angry howls,
from the chaos you stirred,
from the curl of your lip.
But you bit down hard,
your touches never gentle,
as you ripped your violence
across my plains,
my soul,
my home.

You left me naked,
lost, spun around,
bruised and bleeding.
The dew of mourning's light
rests heavily within my dark eyes
as you move on, without regret,
to the next innocent soul,
leaving only destruction
in your path.

Tomorrow
they will say
you killed,
but I will say,
you sacrificed.

A widespread tornado outbreak hit on 3/2/2012, affecting 8 states, 38 dead so far and hundreds hurt.
People in Alabama affected by last April's tornado outbreak have been affected once again. An Indiana
town of 1,900 was removed from the map; there's nothing there anymore. The debris from that town
was raining down several towns over in Kentucky, right where my sister and nieces live. While towns to their
East and South were hit hard and many suffered, my family was sacrificed.

Personifying the tornadoes seemed appropriate; the actions of madmen can't ever really be predicted.
