There once was a girl who lived precariously,
and said she wanted to live vicariously.
So I stuck her in my pocket.
She observed things for her docket.
And the list was made quite hilariously.
There once was a tiny girl who had a plan,
to live a full life and nothing less than.
So she grew full sized,
because small as a pocket was no longer advised,
And life ordinary she now outran.
There now was a girl livin' large,
and through all types of barriers she'd barge.
Tall as a giant she'd become,
there was nothing to which she's succumb,
And happy she was finally in charge.

Everything You Borrowed
On Sunday afternoon,
after exiting the church,
you plucked the sun from the sky
and hid it in your palms
so that when I held your hands
they would no longer be cold.
When Monday night arrived
you snatched every single star
and used my tears to make
a necklace.
Tuesday's empty dawn shone
through the cracks of the door--
you stole the promise of what
could never be
and draped it around my shoulders.
After Wednesday's twilight passed,
you grabbed the clouds
and wove a tapestry of lies
that I hung on the walls
of my prison.
Thursday crept through us
on silent tiptoes,
waiting for us to take notice--
instead, we merely waited
for midnight to

Goodbye
i didn’t fall in love with you
until your skin was already grey and i
had to tell you what the weather was like
since you couldn’t leave your bed.
i didn’t mind long nights in the hospital
because making you laugh brought a warmth
to my cheeks that burnt hotter than a
forest fire, you never laughed at me for blushing
i snuck you in alcohol and forbidden foods
and pushed you around in that rusted wheel chair,
and all the nurses looked at us with
miserable eyes that said more than the doctors
would ever tell me.
naively i thought it was good news
when you said they were sending you home; but
when i saw you strewn across

Chimes
A bird,
and the edge of winter. There are no signs.
I'm tired of this, the searing and the splitting,
metal on metal. I'm tired of myths. Won't you just be beside me,
be still? Let me picture you, just for a moment. Divine
concentration, that's all you take. Don't ask.
Living never felt natural.
But here we are, trying-
All for this one second,
this one flash of perfection. It's tricky
to be a person. I can never get the balance right,
and the seasons are a quilt,
heavy like a sand, damp
faces. Where is your voice, is it
beneath the soft song of the quiet? Your words,
did I make them?

I was pretty much dared by this dandy lady --> to write her a limerick with a 3 stage plot...which is why this is a triple-decker limerick.
Anywayyy...the story goes, she wanted to live vicariously but I said, "No, ma'am!" That's no way to live. You should live livevaciously (<-- new word I created which is the opposite of vicarious living). So this is the story of her growth from being pocket-sized, and carried around in my pocket, to full-sized and just beginning to live life, to giant-sized and living for all it's worth. =]
